Álvaro Torras Casas

PhD 2018–2022

EPSRC PhD studentship

Álvaro analysed the persistent Mayer–Vietoris spectral sequence during his PhD, developing new algorithms for computing persistent homology and the PerMaViss software package for distributed computation. He had his successful viva in January 2022. More information can be found on his website.

Sam Richardson

PhD 2019–2023

self-funded

Sam studied rational characteristic classes associated to higher twists over SU(n) via exponential functors. He had his successful viva in April 2023.

Valerio Bianchi

PhD student

EPSRC PhD Studentship

Valerio worked on equivariant C*-algebra bundles. His PhD was EPSRC-funded and gave an equivariant classification of equivariant UHF-algebra bundles. More about his work can be found on his website. His successful viva was in December 2025.

Georgios Tridimas

PhD student

Heilbronn Institute PhD Studentship

Georgios (George) is working on topological invariants of G-kernels on strongly self-absorbing C*-algebras. His Heilbronn Institute-funded project, Symmetries of C*-algebras through the lens of stable homotopy theory, studies homotopy types of classifying spaces associated to topological 2-groups arising from G-kernels and cocycle actions on strongly self-absorbing C*-algebras.
